2 AUGUST 2008

There’s only one thing British beauty Keira Knightley says is missing in her life – a university education.

The Edge Of Love star left school when she was 17 to pursue her stunning career on the silver screen. And that, says the modest 23-year-old, has left her feeling “completely uneducated”.

“Not going to university did give me an incredible driving force,” the actress told Tatler magazine. “It makes me feel I am going to read absolutely everything so I can prove that I am not stupid.”

To expand her knowledge, the Oscar-nominated star has thrown herself into books. Her current reading list includes the works of Mary Wollstonecroft, a history of the Vietnam War and Germaine Greer’s iconic work The Female Eunich.

Next seen on the silver screen in The Duchess, Keira is already being tipped for another Acadamy Award nomination for her performance as Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire. She has also signed on to play Cordelia in a film adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear alongside Welsh icon Anthony Hopkins and Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts.

Keira refuses breast enhancement for ‘The Duchess’

From nydailynews.com:

Keira Knightley has refused to allow any enhancement of her cleavage on publicity photos for her upcoming movie, “The Duchess,” Britain’s Daily Mail reports.

Studio heads reportedly want to enlarge Knightley’s bosum in the photos, but the actress, 23, put her foot down.

She has insisted that her figure stay in its natural state,” an insider said. “She is proud of her body and doesn’t want it altered.

This isn’t the first time Knightley has faced this dilemma. The actress drew negative attention in 2004 with her larger-than-usual breasts in publicity stills for “King Arthur.”

Those things certainly weren’t mine,” Fox News quoted her as saying in 2006. According to Knightley, the studio marketing team was behind her suddenly C-cup breasts, but gave her final approval on the photos.

I was like, ‘OK, fine. I honestly don’t give a s—,’” she recalled.

Knightley has expressed dissatisfaction with her small bustline. “I would love to have [breasts]!” she told Britain’s GMTV last year, adding, “I’m never going to get [them]. I’m naturally who I am.

From The Press Association:

Keira Knightley was the second highest-paid Hollywood actress last year, a study by US business magazine Forbes has showed.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star earned 32 million dollars (£16 million) through her roles in the Pirates sequel At World’s End and in the Oscar-nominated literary romance Atonement.

But the 23-year-old Briton, whose racy ads for Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle perfume also brought in the cash, was beaten to the top spot by Cameron Diaz, who earned 50 million dollars (£25 million) for her roles in Shrek and What Happens In Vegas.

The fat, highly anticipated September fall fashion magazines are almost upon us. Can’t you just feel their weight in your arms right now? Vogue is taking a risk with its cover girl, Keira Knightley. Knightley last appeared on the June 2007 cover, which was the second-lowest seller of that half of the year, moving just 405,000 copies. Still, that’s a lot more than Gwyneth Paltrow’s May 2008 cover, which sold just 310,000 copies. Read full article.

From showbizspy.com:

Sienna Miller says Keira Knightley is “ravishing”.

Miller — who stars alongside Knightley in new flick The Edge Of Love — reckons the pint-sized star is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.

Sienna says, “Keira is just ravishing in every way, a goddess, and I adore her.

There’s no kind of rivalry. It’s Keira Knightley, you bite the bullet, you just deal with it.

Sienna, 26, also said there is no way she can compete with Keira in the looks department — no matter how much make-up she applies.

She adds to Britain’s OK! magazine, “There’s not enough make-up that can put you anywhere near that level.

But she is such a cool chick and she is so bright and lovely.

The page of the movie at IMDB, removed the ‘rumored’ and now only says:

Keira Knightley … Cordelia
Gwyneth Paltrow … Regan
Naomi Watts … Goneril
Anthony Hopkins … King Lear

This is great news, don’t you think??

Digital Spy Interview about THe Edge of Love
Posted by Babi
Archived under: Interviews
June 26 2008

From Digital Spy:

In their stunning new film The Edge Of Love, Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller play two young ladies lusting after the renowned alcoholic and genius poet Dylan Thomas in war-torn Britain. Digital Spy hooked up with the alluring and articulate actresses in a swanky Kensington hotel room for an engaging chat about their experiences making the acclaimed and emotionally complex movie.

Keira, what was your first reaction on reading your mother’s script for the film?

Keira Knightley: “She gave it to me when I was working on The Jacket when I was 18 and I can’t even remember why, because she’d never done it before, but she wanted notes on it. But I thought it was a really beautiful story. You very rarely see films that really study friendship and rivalry and the complexities of a group of friends and how they can implode and how they manipulate each other. I thought it was completely fascinating. The fact that it was based on a true event and that Dylan Thomas happened to be one of the friends, I thought that was very exciting.”

Were you keen on playing the character of Vera straight away?

Keira: “Originally when I read it [the characters] were written a lot older - I was 18 when I first read it. So I didn’t even think that I could play either of the characters. But I gave the script to a producer just to try and help… and he said ’so are you going to play one of these parts?’ I went ‘yes’ and he said ‘which one?’ and I said ‘Vera’. It just sort of came out and I hadn’t really thought about it but I stuck with it.”

Sienna, you were cast as Caitlin after Lindsay Lohan suddenly dropped out. How much time did have have to prepare before filming?

Sienna Miller: “Maybe a little under two weeks.”

Was it a shock when the call came?

Sienna: “John (Maybury, director) and I had been great friends for years, so I knew all about the project anyway and I heard that there were maybe a few problems with certain… so I had an inkling maybe. But two weeks, which was not enough. Normally I’m a bit of a boff and there’s a lot to read especially as she was a real person. It was just two sleepless weeks… but I skimmed the book that Caitlin had written. I didn’t have time to prepare but in a way it kind of served the character because it’s just as free and as brave as you want it to be.”
