Keira, for real

Click to EnlargeGLAMOUR: Keira is quite a glamorous name.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY: Is it?

GLAMOUR: Yes! Keira Knightley. You come from a theatrical family. Did they have theatrical expectations of you?
KK: My mother is a writer and my dad’s an actor. But, no, they didn’t. I think they would have been happier if I hadn’t done the same thing as them.

GLAMOUR: Come on.
KK: Why, come on?

MTV Interview

From mtv.com:
Thanks Iris

It doesn’t take a casting genius to arrive at Keira Knightley to be your lead in a film like “The Duchess.” Some actors know guns. Some know accents. Keira Knightley? She knows gowns (and I suppose if you’ve recently watched “Domino,” you could say she also knows guns and accents, but whatever).

Based on the best-selling biography of Georgiana Cavendish, the duchess of Devonshire, Knightley’s latest finds her in the familiar pomp and circumstance of a period piece, but this time she’s traded pirates and swords for infidelity (Ralph Fiennes co-stars as her none-too-pleasant husband) and infamy (the duchess was an “it” girl far before the likes of Lindsay and Britney).

MTV News chatted with Knightley about her predilection for ornate costumes, whose celebrity pout bests hers and why she’s done with pirate movies for a while.

Keira Knightley carries bigwig role in ‘The Duchess’

From usatoday.com:
Thanks princesssparkle.

TORONTO — For someone constantly scrutinized for her slender frame, Keira Knightley knows how to stuff her face.

I have food! That’s so good!” crows Knightley, surveying the spread before her. She jams chunks of a banana into her mouth and cheerfully recounts an earlier mishap with an ingestible.

I was wearing really great trousers, but then I spilled tea down (them),” says Knightley, who changed into a flouncy green skirt paired with a white blouse, blue jacket and decadent Chanel Mary Jane heels.

She points to her gams, now on display. “And I didn’t shave my legs. It’s quite embarrassing,” says Knightley, as she admits how hard it is to shake the illusion that “randomly, somebody is just rubbing them up and down.

Keira Knightley Interview: From Pirate To Duchess

From entertainmentwise.com

Entertainmentwise: We understand you were familiar with the book before you signed on to do the film, was it an offer you couldn’t refuse?

Keira Knightley: “I started reading the book when I was doing Edge of Love, (but) it wasn’t the book, Saul (Dibb, the director) sent me a letter and he sent me three really big ostrich feathers tied with a nice big bow…They’re very pretty, I thought a man who does that, you have to work with him really!”

Knightley: ‘Ignore my life, enjoy my films’

From itn.co.uk:

Click to ViewKeira Knightley has complained that people will not appreciate her films fully if they know too much about her private life.

She said: “No actor particularly likes talking about their private life, I think partly it ruins that magic of the films.
“No actor particularly likes talking about their private life, I think partly it ruins that magic of the films
” - Keira Knightley

People that go and see it should get completely lost and believe that these people are real and I think it helps not to know anything about the background of the person.

Her new film The Duchess, a lavish melodrama of aristocratic foolishness and betrayal is designed around the colourful life of an 18th century socialite, Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire.

A feminist before the word was invented, Georgiana established a salon devoted to the artists and politicos of her day and even campaigned for Whig party candidates despite not having the vote herself.

Chanel 4 interview

From channel4.com:

Click to ViewStephanie West talked to Keira Knightly about her new film, The Duchess, in which she plays Georgiana Spencer, an ancestor of Princess Diana.

Keira Knightley spoke of the “extraordinary character” of The Duchess, describing her as “a woman who is incredibly intelligent and loving of life and an idealist at the beginning of the film.”

“She’s someone who tries to grab happiness with both hands, and every single time sort of gets ripped away from it,” she says.

Popsugar interview

From Popsugar:

Recently I had the amazing opportunity to meet the stars of The Duchess and hear all about the role sex plays in the movie, from the practicalities of filming sex scenes to the sexual politics of the period. Here’s an excerpt of the Q+A with Keira Knightley (who plays the eponymous Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire), Dominic Cooper (who plays her extra-marital love interest, Earl Grey) and Hayley Atwell (who plays the third person in Georgiana’s marriage, Bess Foster). Come back to PopSugar UK later in the week to see what else the gang had to say about the film, including the Diana connection. I’ll also bring you my review before the film’s release on 5 September.

What was it like to get in to the costumes?

KK — We had to be sewn in to some of them, which they would have actually been, sewn in and cut out.
DC — Which is very difficult in a moment of passion to undo at a rapid pace without looking ridiculous [laughter] Sorry!
KK — I can’t add anything after that!
