The 100 British celebrities who really matter by Piers Morgan

16 KEIRA KNIGHTLEY

I can’t stand that fake grin, or the absurd pouting, or all the constant whining about how dreadful it is being a highly paid film star. But, and it’s a big but, there is absolutely no denying that Keira’s one of the best actresses in the world right now, bringing an intensity, emotion and sensitivity to her work that few can rival. If celebrity importance is measured in column inches and earning potential, then this young lady is right up there with the biggest stars in Britain.

The Sunday Times – Scans and article

This is kinda old… but I really didn’t know until now, so I apologize. Found via maigold @ keiradaily. On December 13,2009 there was an article and a new photoshoot with Keira, and more British stars that are on stage at The Sunday Times Magazine. Scans and the article are thanks to Damian’s Dominion.

Hold The Front Stage
Seventy stars. Two photographers. One year of unprecedented success for the British theatre.

The Sunday Times Magazine, December 13, 2009

Curtain up

In a year when the world went bust, London theatre has been going boom. More than 3m of us attended plays in the capital alone — 26% more bottoms on seats than the previous year. Crafted by brilliant writers, directors and all-star casts, the play has become the thing. Our remarkable photographs, shot by Harry Borden and Tom Hunter, over two days in the stalls of the Royal Court Theatre, brought together the very best of our theatrical talent for an unprecedented shoot.

This is a stage debut for the Hollywood actress (left). But with a playwright mother, Sharman Macdonald, and an actor father, Will Knightley, she’s set to prove theatre is in her blood too.

Keira Knightley chats to InStyle!

Keira Knightley (up for Best Supporting Actress for The Misanthrope) caused the biggest stir at the bash – she looked statuesque and elegant in head-to-toe Miu Miu (and yes, she’s exquisitely beautiful up close with perfect porcelain skin).

‘I am a fully blown luvvie now,’ she giggled to us. ‘I went into doing the play with an extraordinary level of fear and to come out of it with an Olivier nomination is just beyond anything I could imagine!’

Keira Rumored to be Covergirl of Elle March (US)

COVER CHOICES: While this year’s March fashion books feature, for the most part, the typical group of familiar faces, there are a few surprises in the mix.

Elle opted for Keira Knightley, while InStyle is betting on Anne Hathaway, one of the many A-listers in next month’s movie “Valentine’s Day.” Marie Claire also looked to “Valentine’s Day” for its cover subjects — Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel, who comes to the Hearst fashion title on the heels of a February Vogue cover.

Does this mean a new photoshoot!!!! I so hope this is true!

No ‘My Fair Lady’ For Keira!!!

According to The Daily Mail:

Keira Knightley will not play Eliza Doolittle in the new movie version of My Fair Lady.
The Oscar-nominated actress, currently energising the London theatre scene with her stage debut in The Misanthrope at the Comedy Theatre, has withdrawn herself from consideration for the role created by Audrey Hepburn in the landmark film based on the Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical.
Over a period of two years, the 24-year-old star met producers Cameron Mackintosh and Duncan Kenworthy to discuss the possibility of playing the Covent Garden flower girl who becomes a Maycould fair lady after she meets Professor Henry Higgins.

Although strongly linked with the role (she had singing lessons and sang for Mackintosh), Keira was never officially offered the part. She is believed to have felt that the project was taking too long to get off the ground.

A Look @ ‘London Boulevard’

Opens: July 30th 2010
Cast: Keira Knightley, Colin Farrell, Ray Winstone, David Thewlis, Anna Friel
Director: William Monahan

Summary: A freshly released ex-con from South London attempts to stay out of the way of a ruthless loan shark by finding honest work at the Holland Park mansion of faded movie actress. As his violent past catches up with him and his disturbed sister is threatened, he is forced to act.

Analysis: One of the most promising looking thrillers of next year, this suspense drama is based on the acclaimed novel by crime author Ken Bruen. Most notably though it marks the directing debut of “The Departed” and “Kingdom of Heaven” screenwriter William Monahan who also adapted.

Though on the surface sounding like a British spin on “Sunset Boulevard”, the story takes some dark and unexpected turns and includes some pointed commentary about the younger stars of today, especially those famous for their hard-partying lifestyle.

The crew is stacked with Oscar winners running all the major departments, similar to the damn impressive cast including Ray Winstone as the aggressive crime boss, David Thewlis as an agoraphobic business manager, and other talent like Stephen Graham, Jamie Campbell Bower and Ben Chaplin in supporting roles. Should hopefully be very good.

Gemma Arterton: ‘Keira Knightley is Brave to Face Critics’

This former Bond girl speaks out about the criticism from the press on Keira’s role in ‘The Misanthrope’ and takes a stand for Keira. Here what she had to say:

She says, “For some reason, if you’re successful in Britain, people tend not to like you. But if you are a successful woman, and beautiful, in Britain, you are even more disliked.

“When you put yourself in these huge popcorn movies you get out there, in the public arena, more than anyone else. But that also means that you’re out there to be criticized more than anyone else. With Keira Knightley, she’s brave to do her play (The Misanthrope).”

Christmas With Keira

The Mirror.co.uk has a very cute article about how they think Christmas at Keira’s would be.

We’re glad our invitation to spend Christmas dinner round at Keira Knightley’s got lost in the post.

Keira admits: “I am not the best cook in the world. I have tried but I really am hopeless. I can cook maybe one dish. But even then, if you ate it you’d probably end up with food poisoning.

“Recently, a friend was teaching me how to make an eggplant bake. I brought it out of the oven in this beautiful bowl – and dropped it.

“It smashed all over the kitchen, and I burst into tears. Which is why I will ask Santa for some easy-to-understand cook books.”

Keira’s New Role: From Play To Film

According to the guardian.co.uk, Keira is to star in the film production of “The Talking Cure”. No word yet on the truth of this, but we will keep you updated.

Keira Knightley is to take the lead in David Cronenberg’s first film in three years, reports the Playlist blog.

The Talking Cure, based on the Christopher Hampton play of the same name, will star Knightley as Sabina Spielrein, a Russian-Jewish psychiatric patient, who is said to have inspired some of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud’s most remarkable discoveries. Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender – who both featured in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds – are set to co-star, with Waltz as Freud, and Fassbender as Jung.

Hampton’s play focuses on the relationship between Spielrein and Jung, when he was treating her at the Burghölzli mental hospital near Zurich in 1904. Jung used Freudian techniques to try and overcome Spielrein’s association of paternal punishment with physical arousal.
