‘A Dangerous Method’ Director Talks Knightley

‘A Dangerous Method’ director David Cronenberg was recently interviewed about his career and his new film ‘A Dangerous Method’ starring our girl:

Q. So who is the lead?

A. …Keira [Knightley] is a brilliant actress. She blew everyone away. I’m telling you, she’s as good as anyone I’ve worked with, including Miranda Richardson and Lynn Redgrave and Judy Davis. You don’t realize it until you start to work with somebody.

Q. She’s got a pretty lightweight reputation.

A. She’s a heavy dude.

Director Mark Romanek Struggled to Make Keira “Unattractive”

Director MARK ROMANEK struggled to make KEIRA KNIGHTLEY look like a dowdy teen in his new film NEVER LET ME GO – because the actress looked “astonishing” throughout the shoot.

The filmmaker takes charge of the coming-of-age tale, adapted from the book by Kazuo Ishiguro, which tells the tale of three students whose world falls apart when they leave their boarding school.

The trio is played by Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield, and Romanek insists it was almost impossible to make the Pirates of the Caribbean beauty appear plain.

He tells Britain’s Daily Express, “It was difficult. She was eager and happy to do it because the role called for it. But even at her worst, Keira still looks astonishing.”

Keira Not Only Stars in Plays But Makes Them Too!

By Michaella • Filed in: Articles, Keira

So, most of you KK fans know that Keira’s mom is a playwriter… what you might not know is that Keira helps her mom come up with the ideas for the plays. I never knew this about Keira and was very excited to find out how creative Keira is!

Many of us are familiar with William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”, but very few of us know what happened next. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the near future, “After Juliet” explores the aftermath of “Romeo and Juliet”.

With a tense truce developing between the families of the deceased lovers, history appears to repeat itself with Romeo’s best friend, Benvolio, falling in love with Juliet’s cousin, Rosaline.

The twist? Rosaline is out for revenge.

Thought up by Keira Knightley and written by her mother, Sharman Macdonald, “After Juliet” will be directed by the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts (KLPAC) resident director, Kelvin Wong.

Targeted towards a young audience, the show will consist of a cast of 11, and will be showcased at KLPAC from the July 14 to 18.

Having made his directorial debut with “Mukabuku” in 2009, Kelvin has gone on to direct a variety of shows, including Arthur Kopit’s “Oh Dad, Poor Dad” and KLPAC’s newest sketch comedy, “Indicinelive!”

Tickets are priced at RM35 for adults and RM23 for students and the disabled. Preview night (July 14) is going at RM23. Groups can also buy eight tickets and get two free (not applicable on preview night).

To purchase tickets, call 03-4047 9000 or walk in to KLPAC, The Actors Studio @ Lot 10, Axcess headquarters, its 1-Utama or Alamanda Putarajaya outlet. For more information, visit www.klpac.org.

Keira Just One Of Many Stars Who Struggle With Dyslexia

If your a huge KK fan than you know about Keira’s dyslexia. In a recent article, we find out how that affected her. I believe it’s from an older interview but, it’s worth posting again :)

[Orlando] Bloom is one of many famous personalities who have faced dyslexia and have gone onto be successful in their careers. Actors who have been diagnosed with the learning disorder include Tom Cruise, Patrick Dempsey and Keira Knightly.

British actor Keira Knightley faced a number of difficulties because of her learning disability. She said “I remember going in for an audition when I was eight, and it was the most excruciating experience because I couldn’t read my lines.” However, Knightley said that her desire to act helped her overcome the problems and by the time she was 11 “I had kind of overcome the dyslexia and now it’s not really a problem.”

P.S. I have struggled with dyslexia my whole life and I was really inspired to find out how many successful people have overcome it. Thats one of the many reasons I love Keira. She’s successful, beautiful, and has overcome her learning disability! She’s a true role model.

Two New Film Roles For Keira

By Michaella • Filed in: Articles, Projects

Keira has recently signed onto the film ‘The Dangerous Method’, which has changed it’s name from ‘The Talking Care’, according to Empire Online.

David Cronenberg’s third collaboration with Viggo Mortensen is no longer called The Talking Cure, and will henceforth be known as The Dangerous Method. Maybe the former just wasn’t sexy enough for those Universal execs. Who the hell wants to go see a movie about, like, talking?

So the movie will sport a different title from Christopher Hampton’s (Dangerous Liaisons) original play, but otherwise the song remains more or less the same: a three-hander drama about Sigmund Freud arguing with his pupil, Carl Jung, and Jung’s affair with the emotionally volatile patient Sabina.

The play sold out its 2003 London run starring Ralph Fiennes as Jung, Dominic Rowan as Freud and Jodhi May as Sabina. Cronenberg’s version will feature Mortensen as Freud (replacing Christophe Waltz at short notice), Michael Fassbender as Jung, and Keira Knightley as Sabina.

Producer Jeremy Thomas (who worked with Cronenberg on Crash and Naked Lunch) promised Deadline that the film will feature “lots of spirited sex”. Hoorah! Shooting starts next month in Germany.

According to The Guardian, Keira has been offered a role in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘Tender is the Night’ which will co-star Matt Damon.

If last year’s Oscar-winning The Curious Case of Benjamin Button excised almost all trace of F Scott Fitzgerald’s short story from the final cut, fans of the celebrated author may find solace fin reports that his final novel now looks set to get the big-screen treatment.

Keira Knightley and Matt Damon are in talks to star in a new version of Tender Is the Night, according to the Padiba blog. Fitzgerald’s 1934 novel was previously filmed in 1962 with Jason Robards and Jennifer Jones as the rich but troubled couple Dick and Nicole Diver. It is set on the French Riveria, where the doctor and his wife live a seemingly idyllic existence that masks the dark heart of their relationship. The book was listed at No 28 on the 100 greatest novels of the 20th century by the Modern Library in 1998.

Carey Mulligan To Play Lead In ‘My Fair Lady’ ; Not Keira

Keira’s ‘Never Let Me Go’ co-star, Carey Mulligan is ‘set to play’ Eliza Doolittle, the lead role in ‘My Fair Lady. Keira has been rumored to be linked to the role of Eliza, but it seems that those were just rumors.

Joe Wright had at one time been rumoured to be taking the director’s chair, potentially with long-time collaborator Keira Knightley in the lead, but both now appear out of the picture.

By Tathy • Filed in: Articles, Keira

16 KEIRA KNIGHTLEY

I can’t stand that fake grin, or the absurd pouting, or all the constant whining about how dreadful it is being a highly paid film star. But, and it’s a big but, there is absolutely no denying that Keira’s one of the best actresses in the world right now, bringing an intensity, emotion and sensitivity to her work that few can rival. If celebrity importance is measured in column inches and earning potential, then this young lady is right up there with the biggest stars in Britain.

The Sunday Times – Scans and article

This is kinda old… but I really didn’t know until now, so I apologize. Found via maigold @ keiradaily. On December 13,2009 there was an article and a new photoshoot with Keira, and more British stars that are on stage at The Sunday Times Magazine. Scans and the article are thanks to Damian’s Dominion.

Hold The Front Stage
Seventy stars. Two photographers. One year of unprecedented success for the British theatre.

Curtain up

In a year when the world went bust, London theatre has been going boom. More than 3m of us attended plays in the capital alone — 26% more bottoms on seats than the previous year. Crafted by brilliant writers, directors and all-star casts, the play has become the thing. Our remarkable photographs, shot by Harry Borden and Tom Hunter, over two days in the stalls of the Royal Court Theatre, brought together the very best of our theatrical talent for an unprecedented shoot.

This is a stage debut for the Hollywood actress (left). But with a playwright mother, Sharman Macdonald, and an actor father, Will Knightley, she’s set to prove theatre is in her blood too.
