Dylan Thomas’s intense relationshpis make compelling big-screen viewing this month. Sharman Macdonald, the film’s writer and mother of one of its stars, reflects on its gestation

There’s no place like a Caribbean Island, lime daiquiri at your elbow, to begin writing a screenplay about a passionate friendship set in the London Blitz and wartime Wales. The island is St Vicent. My daughter, Keira Knightley, is shooting The Curse of The Black Pearl. She’s 17. I want her to play Caitlin Thomas, the Irish wife of the poet Dylan, in my screenplay. Not that she knows that, and she’s much too young to play her, but films can take seven years to get made. Caitlin is Keira’s part.

Keira was featured in April’s issue of Seventeen magazine on page 44 and 116. The first page (44) talks about sunglasses and the second (116) talks about how Keira was going to play Christine in ‘Phantom of the Opera’ instead of Emmy Rossum. I will post the scans asap!
