by Tathy in May 19 - 2:30 pm

No.. I never left Brazil :(
But I always see pictures… Poland it’s one of the countries that I love, I really don’t know why, it doesn’t have an explanation… maybe I always had an interest because my great-grandfather was from Poland… but I don’t know much about his history :)

by judyta in May 19 - 2:38 pm

by Ola in May 19 - 2:54 pm

I’m from Warsaw judyta.
That’s lovely to hear that you are interested in Polish culture Tathy:) i need to confess that i’m not huge patriot, i mean i love my country but if i could choose i’d rather live in England…such a wonderful country…gosh…wish i could live there. 28 of June i’m going to London for 3or4 weeks it’d be just fantastic time :) :) i cannot wait!

Yes! me too :) Maybe someday I’ll be able to go.
Most of my family it’s from Italy, but I have ancestors from Poland and Portugal too ^.^ I think no one it’s really from Brazil in my family… OMG…. We had a lot of immigrants from Europe in the 20’s and 30’s :)

Brazil it’s a very beautiful country, I know that outside only shows that here we have soocer, beach and florest, but it’s so not true! São Paulo (the city that I live) is world’s third largest city and the largest in South America. It has so many great things! And of course the beaches are great too, but it isn’t all we have, lol

I’m sure you’ll :) remember ” hope is the last to die” :P

I wish one day i could go there and see those mervelous places about you’re writing Tathy :) you are lucky girl!

by judyta in May 19 - 3:11 pm

Ola i’m going to London too : D but in July:> and when it comes to England and patriotism..:> i wish i could study there! :) i hate the Polish educational system. i’m so jealous of all those who went and are studying at british universities. i would like to ask you whether you have any relatives in the UK or something ’cause there aren’t many Polish people with good English and your’s seems to be very good:>

Yes! me too :) Maybe someday I’ll be able to go.

Yes, it is! We have all here… it’s very cool :)

by judyta in May 19 - 3:46 pm

my friend was recently in Brasil and she has brought me a few wonderful pairs of earrings made of coconut shell^^she finds Brasil an enourmously fantastic country:) i’ve always dreamed of taking part the great carnival in Rio( : and well…your football team is popular all over the world ! :)

by Tathy in May 19 - 4:04 pm

Hehehe, this is cool :)
I have a beautiful hair fastener made of coconut shell =) But usually those things you find in the North of the country (I live in the South)… or on the beach :)

Yes… Rio’s canaval it’s very famous and our football team too… but I don’t like football very much, but people are crazy about it in here… It’s so many matches on the week (we have many teams), and when the Brazilian selection plays is a madness, the world cup then it’s like a holiday, people stop working because it’s match day, can you believe that?

by Ola in May 19 - 5:28 pm

Gosh i went out only for few hours and have arreals yet :P
That’s right Judyta, Polish education is just suck…i’m gonna be in london since 28 of june to 20 july :) From the first moment i saw Tower Bridge or London eye or even ordinary London’s street i just fell in love with that city…i’d like to study there but i’m afraid it’s impossible ‘couse my english is not good enough. Anyway i’m going to london for a english course so hope i’ll learn something new and improve my english:)

PS. Judyta thanks a lot for this complement but i really don’t think my english is good, believe me it is not:)

PS no.2 Rio’s carnaval is just accomplished…so many different cultures, temperaments….you really are lucky girl Tathy :)

by judyta in May 19 - 6:32 pm

Tathy, that must be amazing! :) even if i’m not a big football fan too, i would like to be there and experience it:)and i try to be acquainted with the main football events, for example, in a few years (exactly in2012) Poland is going to host the Euro 2012 and i’m quite apprehensive about it. i will be a sample of what you have in Brasil ;d especially because the main pitch will be apptoximately 15 minutes away from my home! :) i have no idea how they will deal with the road congestion in that densely populated city. i’m sure you don’t have such trivial problems^^

Ola - there is no need to worry about your language! :) universities require 6 points from IELTS and it’s not hard to score, really:>(the same with the CAE axam:) what is more while being engaged to the uni you have to be interviewed by the Admissions Tutor and even when your level of language could be better they will accept you due to your results from other subjects and various achievements (like the Matura exam or let’s call it Polish A-levels:P) just plug away at it! :)
and Lodon does have a sort of magic charm… :D it’s so manicured city in comparison to our neglected cities with tenements…

by Ola in May 19 - 6:45 pm

we’ll see…
now i cannot wait to see London :) it’s only 40 days till my departure! i’m so excited! :) I’d love to see Keira there…

by Ola in May 19 - 6:47 pm

In 2014 Brazil will host the world cup! It’s a big event already… I think that even if you don’t like football, you became a fan… in that period at least, an example is in 2002 the cup was in Japan, and we have a big timezone difference here, so EVERYONE wakeup in the middle of the night to watch the matches… the restaurants were opened and you couldn’t sleep even if you wanted because of the noise people did on the streets… but sometimes all of that it’s too much… hehehe.
In Poland football it’s a big deal too? If it’s certainly it will change the routine of your city

To my mind it’s really cool when people are so fascinated about something, that they even wake up in the middle of the night just to see their fav. football team :) it sorta sport solidarity isn’t it ?
i need to say that i’m a little bit afraid ‘couse i’m not quite sure wheather my country’ll deal with such a big pressure of making as good sport halls and other indispensible things as other countries, but anyway, hope they’ll deal with it…some how.

We have a wonderful wheather today…maybe we’ll have some new candids as well! have a nice day everyone:)

in Poland football is a big deal and everyone from Silesia was happy to hear the news about Euro 2012 and the ‘defeat’ of Ukraine (they have started preparing for it before the final decision about hosting that event was made, it’s unbelieveable, isn’t it?:>and now you may easily predict what are we worried about:> Poland might lose the chance due to medicore condition of the pitches^^

by Ola in May 22 - 6:26 am

Hi everyone :) i’m still on holiday but i found someone who has an internet so i decided to write to you:)

I just love Jane Austen this’s my favourite writer, really. I love every piece of her work, she is amazing. All of her novels are so realistic, full of truth and sort of good energy.
it seems to me that reading books in their’ original versions is more interesting and fascinating that in our own lenguage:) but Of coure it doesn’t mean that when you’re reading something in Polish or some other leng. you’re making mistake or something, it’s just…you know sorta different kind of experience. i know…i’m crazy:(
Tathy don’t worry you have your whole live to read in English, you can read everything what you want;)
I also read ATONEMENT, both in Polish and English are just mervelous. You have to read it:) i mean maybe you’ve already read it but if not you must :P

TAKE CARE GUYS!!!! I’LL TRY TO WRITE SOMETHING SOON! BYE ;)

by judyta in May 22 - 9:03 am

Ola you are not crazy( : do you realize how much i love comparing various language versions of the same book?:> i’m suer you don’t, i just go mad when i have 1 book in 3 different languages like English Polish and German : P i have so much fun reading all of them and comparing the translations:) i would like to become a translator but i’m still not sure whether the career prospects are promising enough.what do all of you think about that? is it a beneficial job?
when it comes to ‘atonemet’ i will read it during my forthcoming holidays:>and i must admit that harry potter souded to me much better in my mother tongue.i’ve read it also in English but the atmosphere was ‘too British’ for me : P i do not mean it was worse than the translation, i just could ‘feel all the events’ by all my senses( : (i hope you know what i mean:>)

actually our selection does need a Brazillian couch : D

by Tathy in May 22 - 9:32 am

I started reading Atonement, but something comes up, I stopped… the I started to read Jane Austen… I liked Jane Austen in Portuguese!! But we don’t have all of her books in Portuguese, so I’ll read the ones that we don’t have in English :(
Harry Potter for me is so much better in English, especially the last books, in Portuguese they changed a lot =/

Have a good vacations, Ola!!

And judyta, it should a fun job to be a translator.. but it depends of your country… I know that here there isn’t a lot of them, so it’s beneficial job here.

by judyta in May 22 - 9:33 am

a few days ago i’ve noticed something what struck me and i have to write it here.namely, it’s the Chanel ad broadcasted on Polish TV.i was shocked when i saw it for the first time! that advertisement was introduced over a year ago worldwide (am i right?) and we can see it approximately since half a month. unbelieveable. anyway, better late than never:P but it’s a pity that it hit Polish Tv not long ago.was that ad popular in Brasil? i have the impression that in spite of being so passionate Poles don’t pay much attention to it…

by judyta in May 22 - 9:42 am

thank you Tathy for your opinion:) if something goes wrong with my career as a translator i will move my house to Brasil: D

what did they actually change in the Portugese version?my friand who is learning Czech language told me that harry potter in that version is a real disaster because of the names and surnames.they have changed almost everything. is it the same problem withe Portugese?

by Tathy in May 22 - 10:06 am

The chanel ads start to play here after a month or so… And it plays untill now, it’s not a big hit as the one from Nicole Kidman, but it shows… The perfumns ads plays a lot here, but in the cable…we have a lot of channels in the cable TV that has American shows (and I love TV shows!!), so I think that shows it fit better in those channels.

Yes, exactly! And I hate that!! The worst is that in the first books it was one thing, after the fifth book, they changed the character’s name, and the person that translated was the same and it is the same publisher… I don’t know why they did that . But that doesn’t happen frequently… for example, I’m reading ‘Heir to the Empire’ now and It’s pretty much the same as the first Star Wars movies…

yes, that’s pretty startling…what you wrote about reminds me about exactly the same thing which happened in the Polish translation but at the very beginning (and the translator with the publisher didn’t change).one of my colleagues has got that version from 1997 in wchich all the names were literally translated! it looks ridiculous:) hopefully when the version was out of print they put the book in circulation with all the weird surnames corrected:)
